Tango in Uruguay

Although tango is believed to have many musical and cultural influences, what is known today as tango developed in the River Plate ports of Montevideo, Uruguay and Buenos Aires, Argentina

 Besides the original Uruguayan and Argentine tango there is Ballroom tango, and Finnish tango.

The most popular tango song is La Cumparsita, composed in 1917 and considered the classic expression of tango.

Uruguayan born Carlos Gardel is considered the father of tango, who popularized the tango abroad, introducing it to the Hollywood film industry in the 1920s and 30s.

Tango is still very popular in Uruguay.
